Should My Teen Drop To Ordinary Maths

Is your teen struggling to decide whether to stay in higher maths or drop down to ordinary level?

I get many students and parents asking me this question at this time of year.

The mock results are coming back and many students can feel disheartened if they get a poor grade.

I myself failed my higher level maths mock exam. However, I persevered and did well in the Leaving Cert itself.

For many students it can be a real dilemma especially when you are aiming for high points in the Leaving Cert.

Maths can be quite time consuming and if you are feeling highly stressed and it is eating into your study time on other subjects, then you can have a big call to make.

To help you make the decision, I suggest you watch the first 15 minutes of my recent interview with Eoghan O’Leary who is a brilliant maths teacher and founder of The Tuition Centre.

Eoghan gives some great insights on how to become better at maths, how long you should study maths each day and how to make the decision on whether to stay in higher or drop to ordinary level.

    Here is the video below:

This can be a stressful time for everyone in a household where someone is sitting exams.

I hope this helps you if you are trying to guide your teen in the right direction with a big life decision.
